This is the original Girl with Florida Scrub-Jay, 2026 watercolor painting by Polina Bright.

I spent a long time thinking about what I wanted this piece to become.

For a while, it wasn't a clear image - just a feeling, a color palette that kept returning.

Something warm and light, yet still holding depth.

Soft tones, but with cool shadows running through them.

And always a hint of blue.

It reminded me of a winter beach - the ocean slightly cold, the air moving, a quiet wind that leaves a soft pink on the skin.

Not quite frost, more like that subtle flush from the cold air.

That contrast stayed with me - warmth and coolness existing at the same time.

And eventually, it found its way into this portrait.
